About Me

My name is Pat Meadows, I'm a full-time software developer and very passionate about gardening. In 2020, during a world wide pandemic, our family decided to fulfill a decade-long dream of purchasing land and starting a farmstead. We had only owned our house for about six years, but we had enough equity that we were in a position to purchase something decent out in the country. I was working remotely full-time due to the pandemic, so I didn't have to worry about a lengthy commute to work in the city. We packed up all of our belongings and headed to rural Missouri to begin the next stage in our journey. Follow along as a family of city slickers tackles the untamed wild and attempts to make their mark in this crazy world.

I'm not keen on any particular style of gardening, I think you should just use whatever method makes sense and works for you. I am planning several garden plots using various methods including Square Foot Gardening, Mittleider method, Back to Eden, and Hugelkultur. I grow both in containers and in-ground, and I'd like to try growing vertically also. We have several chickens and a couple of dairy goats. I'd like to get more animals, maybe a cow and a small herd of meat goats or sheep. There is no infrastructure out here so we are starting with a clean slate.
